DJ Mick Boogie

My first time seeing Mick spin was at a Cavaliers VIP party in 2005. It was love at first earshot! Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Mick’s music knowledge undeniable and his level of creativity is almost unmatched (or possibly in a neck and neck three-way tie with deejays Dangermouse and Green Lantern.) With a roster that boasts A-list clients like Jay-Z, Diddy, Kim Kardashian and Will Smith he has established himself as the “go-to deejay” for celebrity parties. Just recently, he scored some pretty impressive endorsement deals Adidas and Bing. His formula is simple, “Great music plus inspired creativity, equals a happy crowd.” Mick Boogie is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with and definitely one of the hottest mixtape DJ’s to date.

I got an opportunity to talk with Mick and find out more about the man, the myth the mixtape legend…
Your resume is pretty extensive.  You’ve spun all over the world at some of the most exclusive parties known to man. Lol. What’s your best deejay gig to date?

The Hollywood Reporter Cannes Film Festival party in France over the summer. Amazing.  Right on the water.

That sounds impressive! So what’s your favorite city to DJ in?

NYC and Tokyo.  It's a tie.

What are your three go to songs to test out the crowd?

Good question... I guess I'd say Jay-Z: “PSA”…any Swedish House Mafia song…and maybe something like Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Heads Will Roll."

What's your never fail, "go-to" track if the crowd just doesn’t seem to be feeling it?

Depends on where I am... but for today's young hip-hop crowd... random Gucci Mane always works.  For corny white people, AC/DC always works.  For music people... some non-played-out Michael Jackson works.

What's the strangest event you have ever deejayed?

My wife and I eloped in Vegas and I deejayed a club that night... which became my default wedding reception.  With us and 1000 strangers... lol.

What artists are you really excited about getting new music from?

Drake.  Classixx.  Jay-Z.

I know how critical deejays can sometimes be of one another, so who do you credit for your favorite mixtape to date?

DJ Dangermouse for the “The Grey Album”

What’s your favorite Mick Boogie mixtape? Why?

“Viva La Hova.”  People still talk about that.

That’s actually my second favorite Mick Boogie mixtape. I still play it pretty often. “Sounds From The Front Row 3” is my number one. It’s actually the playlist I use while I’m torturing myself on the elliptical machine three times a week. Lol.

If you were stuck on a desert island, and could only listen to three albums for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Red Hot Chili Peppers “Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” A Tribe Called Quest “Midnight Marauders” and Pearl Jam “Ten.”

What can fans look forward to in 2012?

More international touring.  More "outside the box" mixes and projects.

Thanks so much for your time Mick!
